Meet the Artist / contractor

Renee McGowan

My family is the most important part of my life. I am married to my best friend. I am the mother of three amazing kids. I grew up watching family members fix and build. Sawdust is in my ancestral DNA. I love creativity. Being around it. Witnessing it. Being part of it. I know so many creative people and they all spark joy in my life.

The two favorites part of what I do is first, working with the client to come up with a design plan - when the creative energy is flowing. Second, is when I have the equipment all set up and ready to go and I just have that uninterrupted time to concentrate and work. And it is fun to see the before and after pictures.

 
 
 

How this started…

Some people hire it out. Some people figure it out. It is in my nature to figure it out.

Home improvement has been my hobby for years. I installed hardwood floors and painted walls in two flip houses in the early 2000’s with my family. Then I installed hardwood floors again in our house when we moved to Indy to save money. It started becoming more artistic from there. Friends began to ask me to do projects for them in their homes.

One day after numerous attempts to go back into the workforce part-time, my husband challenged me to do what I love and turn my hobby into a business.

The ideas and questions started spinning in my head. How could I do what I love and balance it with my family? How much time could I devote to my passion and create a business and still be engrossed in family activity?

I thought about it. I figured it out. Then I went for it.

The Accent Wall Company was born.

The Accent Wall Company is a joyous treasure to have in my life. It is fun, it is playful and it lets me be me.

I hope the project I help you with warms your home. I hope it inspires you to decorate and declutter and then to relax, enjoy and be present. I hope the walls I install are a background for family, friends, fun and laughter. After all home is feeling, not just a place.
